LAVINGTONHAIRDRESSING

INNOVATIVE | TREND | DESIGN

Lavington Hairdressing was opened in 1977 at 405 Wagga Road, Lavington by a lady called Lyn Mantell . As a schoolgirl Mandy Langshaw (nee Sparks) worked on a voluntary basis for Ms Mantell for four years trying to gain all the experience and knowledge she could prior to applying for an apprenticeship in 1981.  Mandy started her apprenticeship under Lyn Mantel on 20 July 1981 at the age of 16.

The opportunity to purchase Lavington Hairdressing arose in 1983, prior to Mandy completing her apprenticeship so with family assistance she made the purchase.  Mandy’s aunty, Lesley Boltwood was employed as the qualified stylist to allow Mandy to complete her apprenticeship.

In 1999 the salon moved to 368 Griffith Road, Lavington under the name of Mandy’s Lavington Hairdressing.  Mandy ran a very successful business at 368 Griffith Road and over the years trained several apprentices, many who are still working in the local area.

After a long battle with cancer Mandy sadly passed away in 2008 at the age of 44 leaving behind an eight year old son.

Mandy’s husband David decided to keep the business running at 368 Griffith Road as it was Mandy’s and her mothers wish.

In 2011 David remarried and he and his current wife, Lyn decided a more modern salon was desperately needed and as Zauner Construction needed the land at 368 Griffith Road for the new library the premises were sold.  In consultation with Valda Sparks (Mandy’s mum) Lavington Hairdressing moved to its current site at 343A Wagga Road, Lavington in January 2012.  Valda took great pride in rebuilding her daughters dream.

Today despite many changes Lavington Hairdressing is still a family owned business.  Mandy’s son, Jarrod, comes in on Saturday’s to clean, David still does the book work and maintenance, Lyn does nails on a Saturday and also purchases the stock and Audrey (Lyn’s daughter) is a qualified hairdresser.
